The Podestà building, located in Calmaggiore, was purchased by the family of merchants Zignoli, who submitted it to a complete renovation in a typically Renaissance style in the late 16th century. The fresco decorations of the entire façade and the arches are by Flemish Ludwig Toeput (Ludovico Pozzoserrato), operating between 1582 and 1603/05 in Treviso.
The conservation conditions of the frescoes were appalling. Although a first glance made it seem like only the bands right under the roof ha been preserved, the architectural partitions of the entire façade, as well as the figurative and heraldic decorations in the panels of the first and second noble floors were still readable. After an in-depth historical research, the restoration work was carried out. Moreover, we proceeded to verify and intervene on a series of no longer adequate operations, carried out in the 1970s.
